Patients with severe dysplasia or in situ or precoxcarcinoma can be cured by means of resection.Luego de una introducción patológica e histórica sepresenta el tratamiento actual médico y quirúrgico delesófago de Barrett.Se presentan las altenativas terapéuticas según lasdiversas modalidades del esófago de Barrett de acuerdoa la bibliografía intenacional.Se considera al esófago de Barrett, predominantemente,como el estado final de la esofagitis por relujo, en la cualexiste una alta exposición esofágica al ácido y pérdida dela función esofágica. Las complicaciones estaríanvinculadas a una alta exposición alcalina de la mucosaesofágica alterada por un reflujo duodeno-gástrico.
