Description
Summary:Objective: To know the factors that influence adherence from the perspective of adolescents with type 1 diabetes. Methodology: Qualitative study, exploratory-descriptive. We interviewed 25 adolescents aged between 10 and 19 years from Montevideo and Maldonado, Uruguay. The data collection techniques used were in-depth interviews, field interpretative notes and the review of the medical history or adolescent carnet. Results: There were factors which affect treatment adherence associated with all the pillars thereof, including psychosocial aspects of self-monitoring. Among these factors, young people highlighted the positive effect exerted by the support received from their families, friends and health team. Conclusions: Through what is told by the young could conclude that not only personal factors have an impact on adherence, but also influence those related to family, society and the environment. We could identifythe main difficulties that young people perceived were those related to food.
