description This research evaluates the impact of Traditional Green Façades (FVT) on the energy demand of a single-family house representative of the residential typology of the Metropolitan Area of Mendoza in summer. The provision of FVT is compared with the use of a traditional insulation technology (Expanded Polystyrene-EPS). The study is structured in three stages: characterization of the opto-thermal properties of the PVT, determination by thermal simulation with EnergyPlus of the energy savings associated with their implementation, and the comparison of the results achieved with those derived from the use of EPS. It is observed that insulating the entire vertical envelope through the use of FVT and EPS, generates energy savings on summer days with high temperatures, in the order of 18.2% and 53.4% for FVT and EPS respectively. And on days with average temperatures, the savings range between 28.7% and 58.6% respectively.

And on days with average temperatures, the savings range between 28.7% and 58.6% respectively.Esta investigación evalúa la incidencia de las Fachadas Verdes Tradicionales (FVT) sobre la demanda de energía de una vivienda unifamiliar representativa de la tipología residencial del Área Metropolitana de Mendoza en verano. Se compara la prestación de la FVT versus el uso de una tecnología de aislación tradicional (Poliestireno Expandido EPS). El estudio se estructura en tres etapas: caracterización de las propiedades opto-térmicas de las FVT, determinación del ahorro energético asociado a su implementación, mediante simulación térmica con EnergyPlus, y la contrastación de los resultados alcanzados con los derivados del uso de EPS. Se observa que aislar la totalidad de la envolvente vertical mediante FVT y EPS, genera un ahorro energético en días estivales con altas temperaturas, del orden de 26.4 % y 81.8 % para FVT y EPS respectivamente. Y en días de temperaturas promedio los ahorros oscilan entre el 49.3 % y 93.8 %. Esta investigación identifica que las posibilidades de ahorro energético que ofrece la FVT dependen de la magnitud de las temperaturas exteriores. Además el ahorro energético cuantificado es superior al reportado en la literatura internacional evidenciando que su uso es más efectivo en climas áridos con altos niveles de irradiancia solar y cielos mayormente despejados.Esta pesquisa avalia o impacto das Fachadas Verdes Tradicionais (FVT) na demanda energética de uma casa unifamiliar representativa da tipologia residencial da Área Metropolitana de Mendoza no verão. O fornecimento de FVT é comparado com o uso de uma tecnologia de isolamento tradicional (Poliestireno Expandido-EPS). O estudo está estruturado em três etapas: caracterização das propriedades optotérmicas do PVT, determinação por simulação térmica com EnergyPlus da economia de energia associada à sua implementação e comparação dos resultados alcançados com os derivados do uso de EPS. Observa-se que o isolamento de toda a envoltória vertical através do uso de FVT e EPS, gera economia de energia em dias de verão com altas temperaturas, na ordem de 26.4% e 81.8% para FVT e EPS respectivamente. E em dias com temperaturas médias, a economia varia entre 49.3% e 93.8%, respectivamente.Esta pesquisa identifica que o potencial de economia de energia oferecido pelo PVF depende da magnitude das temperaturas externas.
