La transmisión televisiva del fútbol se ha convertido en la vía por la cual la mayoría de los aficionados viven este deporte. Sin embargo, la televisación de los partidos convirtió el fútbol en un espectáculo mediatizado, donde la percepción del juego del televidente varía respecto a la del espectador presente en el estadio. Este artículo toma como punto de partida la noción del panóptico de Bentham, y muestra comparativamente la similitud entre algunos aspectos de este concepto y la transmisión de un partido de fútbol. Para ello, deja a un lado la dimensión sonora y se concentra en el análisis de las variaciones causadas por el sistema de cobertura de cámaras seleccionado. En conclusión, busca establecer semejanzas entre el panóptico y las técnicas de cobertura televisiva de un partido de fútbol así como reflexionar sobre las implicaciones que tiene la televisión en la experiencia de este deporte.
