| Summary: | This is a series of 25 cases of bullet wounds passing between cricoid and first intercostal space. The first part analyzes anatomy of the regían. There ishigh incidence of cascular and visceral lesions, possible association with pleuropulmonary lesions and deathrateis high. Diagnosis may be difficult and traetment should be aggressive based on pre-established tactical principies. It is the authors' opinion that surgical exploration should be systematic. Correct surgical approach should deserve special consideration and be planned beforehand, since the bone barrier covering the region consitutes a seriousproblem. It should be ample, variable and avoid useless anatomical sacrifice. Consideration is given to the possibility of pure cervical paths and their extensions, through medial sternotomy, clavicular sections and resections and the addition of thoracic incisions. |
