Summary:The objective of the present study were to investigate the goodness of fit of a Cloze test to the Rasch Model, as well as to evaluate the item difficulty in relation to gender (DIF). The sample was composed of 1022 college students of the São Paulo and Minas Gerais States, Brazil.  The cloze test was applied collectively. The analysis of the instrument revealed its goodness of fit to the Rasch Model and that the items were responded according to the expected pattern, showing good adjustment, as well. Regarding DIF, only five items differentiated by gender.   Taken together, results indicated a balance in the biases for both man and woman.
