| Shrnutí: | Surrounded by countries with different social, economic, political, and environmental realities, the Mediterranean Sea is a region whose biodiversity is seriously threatened by plastic marine waste. This study, starting from the analysis of key international and European instruments, examines the legislation adopted by Spain in 2018 and 2019 to transpose European waste directives and its effectiveness in combating plastic waste pollution and preserving the Mediterranean Sea, following the transposition of major waste directives issued by the European Union between 2018 and 2019. The conclusion is that, although there exists a well-intentioned framework to protect the marine environment, it appears that the actions taken will be insufficient to achieve the proposed objectives and restore the environmental health of the Mediterranean region. |
