| description | The consolidation of the modern State in Argentina implied the appearance of new subjects and programs, both in architectural and engineering discipline. In addition, the technological modernization operating since the arrival of the railroad, meant the incorporation of new technologies and materials, brought by immigrants (mostly Europeans), who arrived in the Country in a favorable context that supported their permanence. This revolutionized the construction of space, both material and symbolic. In Mendoza, this revolution resulted in the incorporation of the mountainous area into the productive scheme that, until that moment, had been predominantly oriented to livestock and agricultural activity for export. In this framework, the article seeks to understand, in which way the “new” look of the mountain range crystallized in the implementation of buildings and infrastructures: hydroelectric plants, hotels and water treatment plants; elements linked in the vast territory by the railway in the early days and later by the road layout. The search is orientated at the material and technological expression of these elements, both from the actions of foreign technicians and professionals who worked in the constructions, and from larger companies that operated on the territory, impacting it with technologies, knowledge and novel practices. Therefore, the study sustains on the Historical Narrative Model, photographic analysis and content analysis of historical documents. |

Sumado a ello, la modernización tecnológica operante desde la llegada del ferrocarril, significó la incorporación de nuevas tecnologías y materiales que, de la mano de inmigrantes (en su mayoría europeos) llegados al país en un contexto favorable que apoyaba su arraigo, revolucionó la construcción material y simbólica del espacio. En Mendoza, esta revolución se tradujo en la incorporación del espacio montañés al esquema productivo que, hasta ese momento, se había orientado predominantemente a la actividad agro-ganadera y agrícola para exportación. En este marco, el artículo problematiza el modo en que la “nueva” mirada de la cordillera cristalizó en la implantación de equipamientos e infraestructuras: centrales hidroeléctricas, hoteles y plantas potabilizadoras; elementos vinculados en el vasto territorio por la línea férrea en los primeros tiempos y luego por la traza caminera. La búsqueda se orienta a la expresión material y tecnológica de estos elementos, tanto desde el accionar de técnicos y profesionales extranjeros que se desempeñaron en las obras, como de empresas de mayor envergadura que operaron sobre el territorio, impactándolo con tecnologías, saberes y prácticas novedosas. Para ello, el estudio se nutre del modelo narrativo histórico, del análisis fotográfico y del análisis de contenido de documentos históricos.A consolidação do Estado moderno na Argentina implicou o surgimento de novos tópicos e programas na disciplina de arquitetura e de engenharia. Somado a isso, a modernização tecnológica operando desde a chegada da ferrovia, significou a incorporação de novas tecnologias e materiais que, de mãos dadas com os imigrantes (em sua maioria europeia) que chegaram ao país em um contexto favorável que sustentava suas raízes, revolucionaram a construção material e simbólico do espaço. Em Mendoza, esta revolução resultou na incorporação da área montanhosa ao esquema produtivo que, até então, se orientava predominantemente para atividade agropecuária e agrícola de exportação. Neste enquadramento, o artigo problematiza a forma como a “nova” visão da montanha se cristalizou na implementação de equipamentos e infraestruturas: centrais hidroelétricas, hotéis e centrais de tratamento de água; elementos ligados no vasto território pela linha férrea nos primeiros dias e posteriormente pelo traçado viário. A busca visa à expressão material e tecnológica desses elementos, tanto a partir da atuação de técnicos e profissionais estrangeiros que atuaram nas obras, quanto de empresas de maior porte que atuaram no território, impactando-o com tecnologias, conhecimentos e práticas inéditas.
