description	Sesenta aislamientos de los hongos pertenecientes al complejo Diaporthe/Phomopsis de la soja fueron caracterizados utilizando morfología clásica y PCR-RFLP para determinar especie y variedad dentro de la especie. Algunos de los atributos morfológicos estudiados se asocian a cierta variedad dentro del complejo Diaporthe/Phomopsis. Utilizando PCR-RFLP, 37 aislamientos fueron identificados como Diaporthe phaseolorum var. sojae, 19 como D. p. var. caulivora y 4 como D. p. var. meridionalis. Si bien se determinó que las dos variedades de Diaporthe phaseolorum causales de cancro del tallo coexisten en nuestro país, el 83 % de los aislados fueron identificados como D. p. var. caulivora. Esta predominancia tiene implicancias directas en el manejo de la enfermedad, debido a que los genes de resistencia incorporados a los cultivares comerciales de soja que le confieren resistencia a cancro del tallo no son efectivos para controlar esta variedad del hongo.
