This practice, which involves presenting others' work as one's own without proper acknowledgment, undermines the fundamental principles of honesty and originality in the academic field. The objective of this study was to analyze the factors associated with academic plagiarism from the perspective of students at a public university in Lima, Peru. A quantitative approach with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive design was used. The survey technique was employed, and the instrument used was the Questionnaire for the Detection of Academic Plagiarism in University Students (CUDECUO-DUO). An intentional sample of 164 students was used. The results showed that 32.9% of respondents strongly disagreed with copying scientific information sources without proper citation; 41% identified easy access to all kinds of information on the internet as the main cause of plagiarism, and 58.5% highlighted the importance of proper citation as it directs to the original sources. Based on these findings, the study concludes that there is a need to establish policies, strategies, and programs to eradicate this malpractice in university classrooms.

Esta práctica, que implica la presentación de trabajos ajenos como propios sin el debido reconocimiento, socava los principios fundamentales de honestidad y originalidad en el ámbito académico. El objetivo del presente estudio fue analizar los factores asociados al plagio académico desde la percepción de los estudiantes de una universidad pública en Lima, Perú. La investigación se desarrolló bajo el enfoque cuantitativo, diseño no experimental de carácter transversal descriptivo. La técnica empleada fue la encuesta y el instrumento utilizado fue el cuestionario para la detección de plagio académico en estudiantes universitarios CUDECUO-DUO. Se trabajó con una muestra intencionada de 164 estudiantes. Los resultados determinaron que el 32,9 % de encuestados están en total desacuerdo en relación al copiado de fuentes de información de carácter científico sin la citación respectiva; el 41 % consideró como mayor causa de plagio el fácil acceso a todo tipo de información por internet y el 58,5 % destacó la importancia del citado porque dirige a las fuentes originales. Se concluye, en función a los hallazgos obtenidos, la necesidad de establecer políticas, estrategias y programas que permitan erradicar esta mala práctica en las aulas universitarias.O plágio acadêmico entre estudantes universitários é um problema crescente e preocupante que afeta a integridade do sistema educativo. Esta prática, que implica a apresentação de trabalhos alheios como próprios sem o devido reconhecimento da autoria, mina os princípios fundamentais de honestidade e originalidade no âmbito acadêmico. O objetivo do presente estudo foi analisar os fatores associados ao plágio acadêmico a partir da percepção dos estudantes de uma universidade pública em Lima, Peru. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida sob a abordagem quantitativa, com um desenho não experimental de caráter transversal descritivo. A técnica empregada foi a entrevista e o instrumento utilizado foi o questionário para a detecção de plágio acadêmico em estudantes universitários da CUDECUO-DUO. Trabalhou-se com uma amostragem intencional de 164 estudantes. Os resultados determinaram que 32,9% dos entrevistados estão totalmente em desacordo com a cópia de fontes de informações de caráter científico sem a devida citação, 41% consideraram como principal causa do plágio o fácil acesso a todo tipo de informações na internet, e 58,5% destacaram a importância da citação porque direciona às fontes originais.
