Este estudio se centra en la diversificación de la vivienda durante el siglo XX, un período en el que este concepto, antes simple y claro, se vio obligado a diversificarse. Se analizan adjetivos como “mínima”, “social”, “sostenible”, “digna” y “flexible”, que se han integrado a la definición de vivienda, resaltando la necesidad de un complemento que le otorgue sentido y defina su alcance. Este análisis se llevó a cabo mediante una revisión exhaustiva de la literatura y un análisis detallado de las tendencias arquitectónicas y sociales a lo largo del siglo XX. Los resultados indican que estos adjetivos no solo han adquirido una naturaleza sistémica, sino que también son capaces de constituir más que un simple lugar común: se han transformado en un sistema perfecto para rastrear los intereses de una época. Además, proporcionan una interpretación sociopolítica de alto nivel sobre el concepto de vivienda. Este artículo identifica cuáles de estos adjetivos han provocado un cambio profundo en el concepto de vivienda y cuáles son indicadores claros de las tendencias actuales en este campo.
