Description
Summary:The intention of this text is to explore the verbal and visual narratives of streamers through three key dimensions: health determinants, aesthetics, and violence. The conceptual pillars include models of health determinants, studies on aesthetics and identity, and the portrayal of violence as a form of social spectacle. Through surveys, interviews, and ethnographic analysis of streamers' content on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, we have identified egocentric attitudes and dramatic behaviors. Furthermore, there is clear evidence of the flaunting of their practices and lifestyles, which glorify their virtual selves, thus perpetuating a social and economic model centered around spectacle and fiction, albeit with potentially harmful real-world consequences for their audiences. We suggest nurturing and encouraging a critical perspective among young and adolescent audiences, whether they are in formal education or not, and promoting more substantial and creative forms of entertainment.
