Tal contacto les permitió construir una identidad generacional definida. Esto cuestiona la idea de que el rock de los ochenta habría nacido sin padres artísticos, como se afirma en las críticas musicales de la época. Este artículo analiza, en primer lugar, las críticas y crónicas que contribuyeron a formar esta idea, que fue central en la construcción de un discurso identitario para la nueva subcultura juvenil. En segundo lugar, cuestiona la idea de la orfandad y analiza cómo los músicos y periodistas adoptaron y resignificaron los elementos de la tradición cultural existente para hacer del rock de los ochenta el elemento definitorio de la cultura de la década.
