| Summary: | We present a comparative analysis of the process of political and institutional construction of Argentina and Uruguay during the beginning and middle years of the 20th century. This process shows, on the one hand, the creation of contemporary Uruguay on the basis of principles of Republicanism and a secular orientation that goes beyond the separation of church and the State.
