Summary:We present a comparative analysis of the process of political and institutional construction of Argentina and Uruguay during the beginning and middle years of the 20th century. This process shows, on the one hand, the creation of contemporary Uruguay on the basis of principles of Republicanism and a secular orientation that goes beyond the separation of church and the State. On the other hand, we discuss the contrasting orientation that created present day institutional conditions in Argentina.(Complete article in spanish language).
